| The Holdfast Hotel has become a a bit of a landmark in Glenelg. Easily recognized, very accessible and renown for good food the hotel is snuggled into the seaside corner of one of Adelaides busiest intersections and tourist precincts at a place the locals affectionately know as "The Bay". Over the years the Holdfast has been a leader when it comes to innovation in both dining and entertainment. The new management, not afraid of change and aware of their clients needs have recently made some fabulous changes to the hotel. Having recently visited there to review and 'shoot' the menu I am pleased to report that this grand old lady is looking pretty sassy! |

The first thing patrons will notice are the changes to what was once known as 'The Ale House'. A major overhaul has resulted in a number of changes including a new name, a brighter breezier atmosphere and a seperate Brewpub Menu which is just grand. The Brewpub Micro Brewery is up and running and is now producing a variety of products just for the Holdfast Hotel. Entertainment wise things have taken a major turn. The music atmospher has certainly changed as have the bands. Now you can relax every Sunday afternoon with Jazz Bands performing live. Thursday through to Saturday nights its free entry and live music too. Those who want to have a meal, a brew and follow the AFL are catered for with Fox Sport. If footy isn't your sport don't worry because whenever there's something major on the Brewpub will be screeing it. In between the major sports events Fox Sports runs 7 days a week at the Brewpub catering for the needs of most sports lovers who want to relax, have a meal and a brew while catching up with all the latest from here and abroad. |
| When it comes to food and service, everyone knows I'm a stickler for value and good service. I've accepted Craigs invitation to come down and try the new Brewpub menu on a number of occassions and each and every time I have been delighted. Turning up without notice and without chef's knowlege is sure to set the cat amongst the pigeons. I want to see how things run normally. No laying it on thick and dressing meals up for this boy! The food I review must be as it is presented to every other customer or else. I have tried some really exciting dishes since Craig employed new chef Peter. Boy oh boy, does Peter create some great menu items. Fresh is certainly the thing these days [or 'the go' as the youngsters would say] and thats what Peter and his ktchen staff thrive aon and pride themselves on when it comes to creating your meal. There's plenty to choose from where-ever you dine in the Holdfast Hotel be it the Bistro, Brewpub or the Sportsmans Bar. |

| Now I'm not a drinker but I have been told that the Holdfast Hotel recently won an award for its promotion and sale of Hieneken Beer. So if you'd like a burger and beer deal, then at $8.50 the Brewpub is great value. I might not drink but I have had the Gourmet Burger and its an excellent meal. Other great menu items includes their famous Caeser Salads, Steaks, Fish and Asian delights. All main courses come with a fresh salad but for a couple of bucks extra you can have garden fresh steamed vegetables. On my most recent visit to the Holdfast I enjoyed a combination of Nachos for the entre and one of my favourite meals when I dine out, the Kangaroo Fillet. My Nachos was just about a meal on its own, a delightful mix of with bean salsa, guacamole, jalapenos, sour cream tasty cheese and of course, corn chips. The Kangaroo Fillet was a beauty. Done the correct way this is one red meat which is not only healthy and nutricious but a very tasty dish indeed. The fillet's were rubbed in seeded mustard and served with roasted pumpkin mash, caramelised onion and a red wine jus. Just deeelicious. As was my desert which comprised sliced fresh fruits and three varieties of premium icecream. What a meal! So next time you're looking for somewhere great to eat, try the Holdfast Hotel. I'm sure you won't be disappointed. |
