Insight
While "Bad Company" has a plot riddled full of holes they can all be easily overlooked thanks to Chris Rock and Anthony Hopkins. The contrast between these two lead actors is huge but it works well. Chris Rock has a huge following but many still find his brashness a little hard to handle. In "Bad Company" they will get a glimpse of him in a "straight role" playing the sauve CIA agent Kevin Pope, a big contrast to his other role as Jake Hayes the street hustler with a loud mouth and a bit of an attitude. I just happen to be a big fan of Chris Rock enjoying his past film performances in "Nurse Betty" where he played a hit-man [partnered with the great Morgan Freeman] and he was a hell of a lot of fun in his most recent film "Down To Earth" the story of a rich white honkey who dies and comes back to life as a black dude. Theres no doubting Chris Rock is a serious talent afterall he has written a successful book and he's won two Grammy Awards and three Emmy Awards. It was fateful that Rock should make his film debut in the Eddie Murphy film "Beverly Hills Cop II" because Murphy is one of Rock's idols. Rock has shared the limelight with some of the best throughout his film career and this time its with the incomparable Sir Anthony Hopkins. Hopkins has been copping a lot of flack from the US critics over his appearance in "Bad Company" but don't let that get in the way of you seeing the film. From his debut in 1967 when he costarred with Peter O'Toole and Katherine Hepburn in "The Lion in Winter" through a raft of films including "The Bounty", "Silence of the Lambs", "Hannibal" and "Hearts in Atlantis" there is no doubting his talents. They really are an "odd couple" in "Bad Company" but it works well. In the support cast there are two actors who should be easily recognized. Gabriel Macht [Agent Seale] who was recently seen in "Behind Enemy Lines" and has made appearance in top rating television shows such as "Sex & The City" and "Spin City". Peter Stormare [Adrik Vas] should be a familiar face to aussie audiences as he recently appeared in "Chocolat" and the Tom Cruise "Minority Report". The other plus for "Bad Company" is the talents of Director Joel Schumacher and Producer Jerry Bruckheimer who are legendary hit-makers when it comes to the box office. Between them their film list is impressive.

All in all, "Bad Company" should provides around two hours of good fun and action for viewers but the big factor for many comptemplating seeing "Bad Company" will be whether they can handle the "rock" factor. Feeling adventurous? Then give it a try folks, you may be pleasantly surprised by this one.
The Story
Kevin Pope [Chris Rock] is a sauve undercover CIA agent working on the recovery of a nuclear weapon which has fallen into the wrong hands. Unfortunately, just as the final arrangements are about to be made he is killed in the field. Just when all appears lost, Gaylord Oakes [Anthony Hopkins] who leads the undercover team is forced to introduce a wild card who may just save the day. Trouble is Kevin's twin brother Jake Hayes is a streetwise hustler who is the exact opposite in every way. And so commences an operation to transform the loud mouthed, rap lovin punk into a mirror image of his recently departed twin. Will it work? Can Jake step into Kevins shoes and Kevin's bed when his girlfriend arrives in town? More important, can Jake survive long enough for the team to recover the renegade nuclear weapon?
The Verdict
"Hats off to the blockbuster team of Joel Schumacher and Jerry Bruckheimer who somehow have managed to turn all the bad points of "Bad Company" into so many plus's that "Bad Company" ends up a pretty good combination of fun, action and excitement . A very enjoyable way to blow away the winter chills by spending a couple of hours in your centrally heated, local theatre watching Hopkins and Rock do the good guys stuff."

"Formulaic but funny."
Lou Lumenick NEW YORK POST

"Hopkins breezes through the proceedings with an appealingly jaded nonchalance ... that easily morphs into steely authority whenever such stern stuff is required."
Joe Leydon SAN FRANCISCO EXAMINER
"Shrewd and unflummoxed even when undermined by the story's inherent stupidity, Rock is the patch of street smarts on which an even odder couple stand ..."
