The Story
Its that special time of the year when those zany, crazy dog lovers head for the big one, the Mayflower Dog Show. If you haven't had a good laugh in a long while then your going to bust your belly as we follow the inane antics of this bunch of dog show lovers in their quest to win that one award that brings instant fame and fortune, that is if their doggie happens to win Best in Show. Director Christopher Guest has made mince meat out of the obsession americans have with dog shows as he lambusts not only the dog owners but also their spoilt pets. The characters are rich and vibrant and just happen to look a lot like their pooches but then don't most dog owners. Is nothing sacred. No I'm afraid nothing is, but boy will you have a great time with Best in Show. The blue ribbon comedy so far this century.
What The Critics Say
"Best in Show gets blue-ribbon results from its thoroughbred cast of improvisational comics."
Walter Addiego, SAN FRANCISCO EXAMINER
"Best of Show mocks the socks off dog show subculture ... If this seems a niche too thin to mine for much comic gold, rest assured that those doing the prospecting are up to the task. "
Duane Dudek, MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL
"Laughs abound as Guest and co-writer Levy create one comic situation after another. Yet, they also generate suspense as we wait to see who'll take home the blue ribbon."
Jack Garner, ROCHESTER DEMOCRAT AND CHRONICLE
"You're rocking with laughter at the film with the most inventive improvisational dialogue of the year."
Harvey S. Karten,COMPUSERVE
"Alas, Best in Show probably won't find the big audience in theaters it deserves, but it will have a long life in living rooms thereafter."
Robert Horton, FILM.COM
"This is one rare occasion when we can be glad that the film industry is going to the dogs."
James Berardinelli, JAMES BERARDINELLI'S REELVIEWS
"Best in Show still deserves a blue ribbon. It’s the best of its breed in this dog year for celluloid satire."
Todd Anthony, SOUTH FLORIDA SUN-SENTINEL
