The Story
William Thatcher is a commoner who is about to become a hero and wants to win the heart of the fair damsel Lady Jocelyn. William works the jousting circuit and longs to be a real knight, a hero of the nation, battling it out with the best athletes on the World Championship Jousting circuit. He's a bout to get his chance and with some hard training, good friends, a damsel to woo and a false identity it might all come true. You see only knights can compete on the elitist tournament circuit, so William assumes a new identity competing under the name of Ulrich Von Lichtenstein of Gelderland. Between him and success stands a formidable opponent, the man in black who is dirtier than "Dirty Harry" and meaner than "Scrooge". That man is the hero of the french, Count Adhemar. This is a titanic battle to prove who is the better. Will William succeed? Will William win the World Championship? Will William defeat the arrogant Count Adhemar? Will William win the heart of the beautiful, dark and mysterious Lady Jocelyn? William, William, William. Isn't there anyone else in this film! Hell, I'm not going to spoil a good fairy tale! Find out for yourself. All the answers to the above questions and more, are in the very entertaining, "A Knight's Tale".
Insight
They will, they will, rock you yes, rock you yes in the fun filled "A Knight's Tale" starring aussie hunk Heath Ledger as the hero [cheer! cheer!] William Thatcher and Rufus Sewell as his opponent, the villainous [boo boo] Count Adhemar. This a real frollick, with vibrant scenes, great jousting that will have you cringing each time someone gets thumped and of course there's that toe tapping, foot stomping, hand clapping soundtrack which includes "We will rock you" [that is used so effectively in the opening sequences]. This really is a film for all ages, from the balding baby boomers to the whipper snappers of the 21st century and it's a hoot. Don't worry whether the film is technically correct, don't worry if its not arty farty enough, who cares if it has been "americanized", in fact as they say in "that" commercial, "bugga" all that bullshit, this is pure entertainment and if you can't have some fun at "A Knight's Tale" then you ain't breathing. So grab the popcorn, a bucket full of "cokie cola", loosen up your laughing lips and rock on in to your nearest theatre for a tad over two hours of good times with those knights of old, in days of old, when those heroes on horseback enthralled the crowds, won the hearts of fair damsels, bedded every wench in town, drank the taverns dry and lived as though there was no tomorrow.
The Verdict
A rockin, rollin fun filled experience hoot. Let yourself go, stomp your feet, get totally interactive ... RATED M
