Insight
"America's Sweethearts" four stars certainly look as though they had fun making this one and I must say it shows throughout what is a bitter sweet comedy. America loves its two super sweethearts who have teamed together to make hit after hit at the box office, but the word sweethearts couldn't be farther from the truth. You see Gwen and Eddie are living apart. She has moved in with her spanish lover Hector and Eddie, well he's in a thereputic wellness clinic. Poor Eddie can't decide if he's ready to leave or stay on some more. It's essential our two superstars are brought back together and this job falls to the very clever Lee who enlists the help of Gwens personal assistant [and sister] Kiki. Why the big rush? Well it seems that eccentric film maker Hal Weidmann is about to deliver up his long awaited film starring the two sweethearts. He wants them and all the media at a special launching. Problem is that while Lee and Kiki are trying to get the two sweethearts back together, Kiki and Eddie are falling in love. There are some really memorable moments and some great lines in "America's Sweethearts" but for all the flash, glitter, laughs and romance it's Catherine Zeta-Jones who is the standout performer while Hank Azaria runs a close second as her silly , lisping, spanish lover. Most cinema fans will find this a very entertaining piece of cinema and how often do you get the chance to see four big stars clowning around in the one film. Not to often! So enjoy the experience.
