Sleepy Lake Victoria is usually a pretty quiet place, but every year the population of the town explodes from five thousand to fifty thousand for Spring Break; a riot of sun, sex, wet t-shirt comps and drunken fun. But this year, there's something more to worry about than hangovers and complaints from local old timers; because a new type of terror is about to be cut loose on the waters of Lake Victoria. Unbeknowns to everyone, a sudden underwater tremor has set free scores of the prehistoric man-eating fish. The first clue that something is wrong comes when local resident and keen fisherman, Matt Hooper, is reported missing. When his mangled body is found by local sherrif Julie Forester, the alarm bells start ringing. Now an unlikely group of strangers must band together to stop themselves and those celebrating Spring Break from becoming fish food for the deadly razor-toothed residents. Has everything you'd expect at Spring Break: all in glorious, gorey 3-D. Recommended. 2 1/2 STARS.

You think everyones who they say they are? As a CIA officer, Evelyn Salt swore an oath to duty, honor and country. And no-one can sort out a nut-job from the real thing than her. But Salt's loyalty is tested when a walk-in defector announces that "today a Russian agent will travel to New York City to kill the President. The name of the agent is Evelyn Salt." Suspected of working for the other side, Salt goes on the run, using all her skills and years of experience as a covert operative to elude capture. Salt's efforts to prove her innocence only serve to cast doubt on her motives, as the hunt to uncover the truth behind her identity continues and the question remains: "Who Is Salt?" The CIA, despite her service record, are attempting to track her down. They have a strict protocol for situations like this one: "Bring them in, or bring them down." If Evelyn Salt is telling the truth, all hell is about to break loose. "Salt" is one heck of a ride. An action packed, tense thriller. Highly Recommended. 4 STARS.
When a successful British ghost writer, known only as The Ghost, agrees to complete the memoirs of former British Prime Minister Adam Lang, his agent assures him it’s the opportunity of a lifetime. The project seems doomed from the start: the previous writer, Lang’s long-term aide, died in an unfortunate accident. The Ghost Writer flies out to work on the project, in the midst of winter, in an oceanfront house on an island off the US Eastern seaboard. But the day after he arrives, a former British cabinet minister accuses Lang of war crimes by authorizing the illegal seizure of suspected terrorists and handing them over for torture by the CIA. As the controversy erupts, it brings reporters and protesters swarming to the island and outside Lang's mansion. Trapped in a world in which nothing, and no one, is as it seems, The Ghost quickly discovers history may be decided by whoever stays alive to write it. A moody, edge of your seat thriller. Excellent cast. Very Recommended. 4 1/2 STARS.
The time is 1996, and the Blairs and the Clintons are a unique foursome: each of them an extremely bright lawyer; with a kinship forged in shared ideology and genuine affection. When world events and personal watersheds shake the very foundation of their relationship, the men and their wives must come to terms with the ephemeral nature of power and, oftentimes, friendship. What starts as the formality of friendship between two national figures evolves into a genuine connection, a meeting of kindred spirits, of ideological soul mates in their domestic agendas. In early 1998 the world gasps as the White House is rocked with a scandal that will change the face of American politics. Later, the bond between Blair and Clinton is tested over the festering ethnic crisis in Kosovo, as Blair’s call for action clashes with Clinton’s pragmatic approach. It soon becomes obvious that, at the heart, these are two very different men, perched on a political see-saw as their positions change. Blair's star is on the rise as Clinton's begins to decline. The big surprise package is the performance of accomplished actor Dennis Quaid as President 'Bill' Clinton. Recommended. 4 STARS.

Torn between his love for his deeply religious wife and his own growing belief in a world where God has no place, Darwin finds himself caught in a struggle between faith and reason, love and truth. But this is not the grey-bearded old man most imagine when they think of Darwin. Darwin is a handsome man in his early forties who lives a quiet life in an idyllic English village. He is a brilliant and deeply emotional man, devoted to his wife and children, but clearly distanced from them. But the vibrant father, husband, and friend, is gradually buckling under the weight of guilt and grief for a lost child. Annie's death sharpens Darwin’s conviction that natural laws have nothing to do with divine intervention. To his contemporaries, this is an idea so dangerous it seems to threaten the existence of God. Ultimately it will be the ghost of Annie, his adored ten year old daughter, who leads him out the darkness. Worth having a look at, whatever side of the ongoing debate your beliefs fall. A new twist! 3 STARS.

It's the oodles of chemistry created by Cruise and Diaz that makes this film surprisingly good entertainment. 4 1/2 STARS.

Vampires Suck is a comedic exploration of teenage romance and angst spoofing many of the recent 'teen' movies. Becca is torn between two boys; the mysterious, moody and ridiculously pale guy, or the stable and sweet one who reminds her of a 'little gay brother'. In her quest to decide between the two she must survive a family dinner without actually becoming the dinner, made even harder by a group of vampires (who look very much like the black eyed peas) who are also set on eating her! If her romantic entanglements were not enough, she is also trying to deal with her controlling father, who still sees her as a little girl and insists on carrying her around strapped to him in a baby bjorn and, the growing, sexual passion for Edward Sullen that threatens her virginity! As prom night looms she must make some tough decisions, helped along by everyone from Alice from wonderland to lady gaga. For those who hate everything 'Twilight', it doesn't come better than this. 3 STARS.

The year is 1927, and the setting is South Solitary, a rugged and remote lighthouse island, directly in the path of the Roaring Forties. Meredith Appleton, 35, arrives with her uncle, George Wadsworth, the replacement Head Keeper. She is a 'chin up!' sort of girl, and she needs to be in these circumstances. The previous Head Keeper committed suicide. The light has a reputation for 'going out'in the middle of the night. And to top it all off, they almost never see any actual ships. It seems, as a shipping route, going anywhere near South Solitary was long ago given up as a bad idea. Meredith arrives on the island harboring shameful secret: one which now forces her to rely upon the charity of her only surviving relative, her uncle. She cooks and cleans for him, in return for accommodation on whatever lighthouse island he is assigned. But this assignment will not be easy for either of them. Those who relish a simple, down to earth period piece will find much to enjoy here. Worth a look at! 3 1/2 STARS.
