"The Actors" stars the inimitable Mr Michael Caine as O'Malley, Dylan Moran as Tom, Michael Gambon as Barreller and Abigail Iverson as Mary. Recommended viewing but with this little proviso. If you are offended by the "F" word, watch out. It is used liberally. After all This is a gangster movie.
It's October 30, 1977, a night Jerry, Denise, Mary and Bill will never forget as long as they live. Pulling into a Rugsville gas station late at night to fill up their car and then decide to take a trip through a freaky horror show the Museum of Monsters and Madmen which ajoins the station. Operated by Captain Spaulding the ride featuring some of America's most violent and sadistic murderers. Bill is fascinated with one murderer, Dr Satan. When told about the local 'hanging tree' and its colorful history he seeks directions from Spalding. Not everone is keen to take the detour but reluctantly they agree. On the way they come across a beautiful young girl hitchhiking. It's dark, pouring with rain and they stop. Lucky for them, Honey knows the way. Unluckily for them, Honey is not just a pretty face, as they will soon find out. Honey's part of a sadistic family of murderers and the travellers are their next victims. Not for those with a weak stomach, heart problems or a low tolerance to violent behaviour. Terrifying!
Camp Ovation is no ordinary camp. Here, those who are misfits and outcasts at school are sent to rediscover themselves in an environment where performing means getting up on the stage and belting out a tune in front of an audience made up of visiting parents. But it doesn't happen overnight, it takes two months of hard work, dedication and commitment to that finale`, the end of camp concert. This years campers includes the very camp Michael [he turned up at his Junior Prom in drag], the dateless Ellen [who was so desperate she had to beg her brother to take her to the prom], the handsome Vlad [the girls want his body and so does Michael], the blonde bombshell Jill [beautiful but as deadly as a black widow when its mating time], the wannabee Fritzi [she's Jills little slave but watch your back] and then there's the washed up guest instructor Bert Hanley [bitter, twisted and pissed day and night]. Somehow, through personal miracles they make it to the finale` at which the great Stephen Sondheim will be the 'special' guest. Wickedly decadent, so entertaining and invigourating. Highly Recommended. Soundtrack available on Decca Classics.
