STAR PICK - NICOLE KIDMAN
Most australians think that Nicole Kidman is a product of the "land down under" when in fact she was born Nicole Mary Kidman on the 20th of June 1967 in Hawaii, USA. She was though a product of australian parents who, after moving to Washinton DC came back to their native city of Sydney just three years later. The tall[5'10"] willowy, red haired actress got her start down under starring in a film called Bush Christmas. This was followed by the BMX Bandits and then the one that shot her to international stardom, Dead Calm. In between these she starred in the 1986 mini series "Vietnam", a role that won her the Australian Film Institute Award. Her next role though would change her life forever. It was the Days of Thunder where she co-starred with Tom Cruise. It was love at first sight and the two were wed in December 1990.
Nicole then starred in the 1991 Australian film Flirting. This was follwed by a role as Dustin Hoffman's gangster moll in the film Billy Bathgate (1991). But her real talent would start to surface again in a role that had star, star, star all over it. Once again her and Tom joined forces this time in Far and Away in 1992 directed by Ron Howard [happy days], the tale of two young Irish lovers who fled to America in the late 1800s. It was the role that put Tom as second fiddle to her as she wowed and wooed audiences with her consumate charm. Then in 1993 she starred with Michael Keaton in the tear jerker My Life. In 1995 it was a saucey role in Batman Forever with a giant cast that included Val Kilmer, Tommy Lee Jones and Jim Carey. The next big one was Eyes Wide Shut and the controversy started. The media were sniping at her and Tom but they faced the challenge and sued "The Star" over baseless allegations they had printed. It [Eyes Wide Shut] was eagerly awaited by audiences but it was a dud. The pre release hype had built the film up well above its real entertainment level. In 2001 Tom and Nicole seperated and then Tom filed for divorce. Nicole then had a miscarraige losing the one thing they had strived so hard for during their marriage, a child from their own selves. Now audiences all round the world are eagerly awaiting Nicoles new movie Rabbit Hole and hoping that the success will once again come her way.
