"Recommended for the toothsome Jennifer Tilly, the manic Billy Boyd, some inventive deaths, some inspired gore, and one frankly hilarious scene involving Tilly and a decapitated corpse."

"Easily the best of the five Chucky films, Seed Of Chucky serves up plenty with its sharp satirical edge and Tilly’s sensational performance."

The Inside Story
"In the end it's simply another Chucky movie -- whether that's a recommendation or a warning is entirely up to you." Ken Fox TV GUIDE'S MOVIE GUIDE
If you've been a follower of creator, writer, Don Mancini over the years then you are, no doubt, familiar with what has become known as the 'Chucky' franchise. If you aren't, but you are a fan of films that fall into the silly, but entertaining genre of 'gorefest', I might suggest you hire a copy of "Bride Of Chucky" and have a look at it before you take in Mancini's fifth offering, "Seed Of Chucky". While a lot of people are smart enough to realize that 'gorefest' films aren't everyones cup of tea, it's unfortunate that too many critics fail to realize that there is a large number of cinemagoers who just love a tangled tale of blood shedding, decapitating, murder and mayhem. And, while some films are destined for a limited season [in many cases it is done so that they can be followed up with a quick DVD or video release] many fans also all know that this is not always the case and that there are plenty of good horror/slasher films that have had excellent runs in cinemas. Now I'm not silly enough to suggest that everyone should rush out and see "Seed Of Chucky" as that would be quite stupid of me. The simple truth is this; 'Chucky' films aren't for everyone. But, if you have seen the four previous editions or if you just want to take in the 'fun' of a definately 'camp' production, then "Seed Of Chucky" will provide quite a bit of fun. For those who aren't familiar with the use of the word 'camp' when describing film these days, "Seed Of Chucky" is not in any way a film where the characters are, dare I say it, homosexual, although there is a little bit of gender bending in this story. When used to describe the content of films such as this one, the word 'camp' colloquially means theatrically exaggerated. So in other words, expect it to be 'over the top' when it comes to slashing, decapitation, disembowelment and every thing else you might imagine. If you're expecting a classic style killer thriller then forget it. "Seed of Chucky" is outrageous. 'Chucky' first hit the big screens in 1988, debuting in the film "Child's Play". In this first of five films he was a harmless, two foot high, childs doll. Until that fateful moment when serial killer Charles Lee Ray was gunned down by police. Using Voodoo incantations the homicidal killer's evil spirit passed to the doll, who then went on a rampage of murderous intent. Chucky continued on his way through Child's Play 2 & 3 until ten years later when "Bride of Chucky" was released. In the fourth film, Mancini introduced a new twist, Charles Lee Ray's heartbroken girlfriend Tiffany. It seems Voodoo spells come in pretty handy. In this case, Tiffany used the spell to transfer into a doll and to also ressurect good old Chucky. The resultant union would produce a child and spawn a fifth film,"Seed Of Chucky". "With Tiffany as Chucky’s girlfriend and, later, wife, we could show a whole other side of Chucky that had not been seen in the previous movies," Mancini recalls. "I structured Bride in such a way that the relationship between Chucky and Tiffany went through all of the stages of a romance. They courted, they went on a date, they had sex, they got married, they fought, and they killed each other." What wasn't structured into the franchise was Mancini making his directorial debut.
How did Mancini's directing debut come about? Through his participation in "Bride of Chucky" working as the 2nd Unit director and a promise made to him by producer David Kirschner who told Mancini, "Live it, breathe it, and if we get to do movie number five, then you can direct." Kirschner, who created the Chucky, Tiffany, and Glen dolls says, "Don brought so much to that movie. He was part of literally every frame. As creator of the property, he has a strong understanding of the Chucky character’s mythology and a complete passion for the project. So when we were ready to make "Seed of Chucky", it was clear that Don would be not only the writer but also the director." Mancini is thanful for the support Kirschner gave him on set. "David has produced all of the Chucky movies. He allowed me to be around on the sets of them all, where I soaked up a lot of experience. It’s something that most writers in Hollywood rarely get the chance to do, and I learned a lot." Kirschner's producing partner Corey Sienega notes that "Nobody knows Chucky better than Don, so he was not just the natural choice to direct Seed of Chucky. He was the only choice. David was planning this. He has believed in Don’s talent for many years; they have a lot in common as far as their fascination with movies, especially genre and horror movies. The three of us are bonded by a sick love for Chucky." Sienega, who joined the team on "Bride Of Chucky" recalls the change in direction that came with the fourth film. "It was a big, and conscious, decision we made on Bride of Chucky to embrace the humor. The fans know where the series has been so far, and by combining more humor with horror, we keep everyone a little off-balance." But a six year gap before a sequal? "It’s helpful to leave a few years in-between the movies to keep an element of surprise," she explained, "and with "Seed of Chucky" we wanted to take everything much further." And they certainly do just that. The twist in "Seed of Chucky" is the parental battle for their love child Glen. Finally reunited with them, he is torn between the desire to please his loving mummy or succumbing to his evil father who wants him to follow in daddy's murderous footsteps. But there is more! Quite a bit more. Or should I say less. You see, Glen has been born anatomically defective. He has neither a penis or a fanny which leads to a gender crisis. "Glen is stuck in the middle," Sienega says. "Chucky wants Glen to be the son he’s always dreamt of, while Tiffany is really looking for the perfect daughter." Mancini says, "It’s classic behavior; when there are fathers and sons, they’re going to butt heads. In real life, it can be about career choices or drugs or whatever. In Seed, we treat the whole idea of these dolls’ murderous tendencies as a metaphor for family discord." It all adds up to a lost of very dark humour. "I think Don surpasses himself with Seed," says Kirschner. "It’s so outrageous, and very funny. In a strange way, everyone can relate to it, whether as parent or child. The dynamic between these two parents is familiar; even though these two parents are insane murderers, they are still a family. Mind you, the weirdest two-foot-tall family you’ve ever seen, but a family nonetheless." One very sick little family if you ask me!

What It's All About
"...don't take this one too seriously and you might just enjoy most of it." ...... JoBlo JOBLO'S MOVIE EMPORIUM
Chucky and Tiffany are just lifeless, harmless dolls. Recovered from a murder scene they are now, through the marvel of animatronics taking part in the production of a new film, " Chucky Goes Psycho", starring Tiffany’s favourite actress Jennifer Tilley. Meanwhile, on the other side of the world in England, a young child has grown up enslaved into a life as part of a heavy metal ventriloquist act. Longing to find his real parents he escapes and travels to LA where he finds his parents in the film companies prop room. Using a Voodoo incantation he brings them back to life. Little does this innocent young child realize the murderous evil he has loosened upon an unsuspecting world. Torn between the desires of his parents, Glen suffers an identity problem exacerbated by an anatomical defect. Meanwhile, Chucky has a new plan. He will impregnate the voluptuous star of the film Jennifer Tilly and produce a sibling for Glen. Or is that Glenda?
The Verdict
"Decidely dark. Delightfully murderous. Wickedly camp. "Seed Of Chucky" is a gorefest of fun, murder unimaginable and family infighting. Will apeal to all 'gorfest' fans, those who have followed the murderous adventures of 'Chucky' and anyone with a dark, politically incorrect sense of humour. Recommended to the dedicated horror fans and the curious."
