"I know. Shut it down, don't destroy it, do it quickly. Don't die!" With those words Mr Incredible sets out on his assignment to defeat a super smart mechanical adversary who learns very quickly from its opponents. Little does he know that he is about to place, not only his life, but the lives of his family and everyone in the world in great jepoardy. It sets the scene for a another snappy, incredible adventure from the makers of "Toy Story I & II", "Monsters Inc", "A Bug's Life" and of course "Finding Nemo". And don't be fooled, this is a film that spans generations of cinemagoers. Colorful, imaginative, sensational, smart, snappy are all words used to describe what is truly an incredible movie experience. Probably the hardest thing when writing about "The Incredibles" is 'where do you start'? Like the sensational "Finding Nemo" it is packed full of little gems all of which combine to make a treasure chest of viewing pleasure for cinemagoers. The vision for creating "The Incredibles" comes from director/writer Brad Bird "who wanted to make a motion picture that would capture everything he'd always loved about the movies: grand adventure, unconventional families, inventive thrills, cutting-edge imagery, sharp humor and characters so compelling and true-to-life you can't help but become involved in their emotional and moral dilemmas." To his credit, Bird stuck to the concept of making an animated feature film, fully realizing that what he had in mind "would raise the art form to the next level of dramatic achievement." Bird says the concept for "The Incredibles" came to him when he became a brand new father. He started to think "dizzying thoughts about how a person integrates their family life with their personal dreams." The first character to come to life was Bob Parr, father, family man and a former idolized superhero forced to live a mundane life of anonymity. "I really poured everything in my heart into the story. All these personal things about being a husband, being a father, the idea of getting older, the importance of family, what work means and what it feels like to think you're losing the things that you love, all of these are tucked into this one big story," he said. And a big story it is. As he began to write Bird "realized that two very different ideas were coming together as one, " he recalled. "He was writing the wildly imaginative spy adventure he'd always wanted to see; but, he was also writing a drama about the ties that bind us and how the greatest superpower of all might simply be the power of a family."
Bird admits that while he "hoped to push the technical limits of animation, he also hoped to push the form's storytelling potential to a new edge. To a certain degree, I was inspired most by the classic Disney animated films like 'Lady and the Tramp' which have such indelible characters that they've stood the test of time," he says. "The question was how to do that with the very best tools the art form has to offer today." Bird knew that there was only one company capable of bringing his story to life on the big screen so he took his draft copy to them. The company was Pixar Animation Studios creators of such classic family animations as "Toy Story I & II", "A Bug's Life", "Monsters Inc" and of course, "Finding Nemo." Pixar are always on the lookout for new stories and were immediately excited by the prospect and challenges of Bird's draft. John Lasseter, Pixar's vice president and Oscar® winning filmmaker says "the minute he heard Bird's pitch, he knew he had found one." Lasseter instantly realized that this production "would be the most technically innovative, logistically complex and overall most monumental production the studio had ever undertaken." When the production was finished Lasseter would note, "The creation of "The Incredibles" required a tour de force. Fortunately, our guys at Pixar keep getting better and better. With this film, they've really outdone themselves. When you see the characters in this movie act and you look into the pools of their eyes. You can feel what's going on inside their soul. The subtleties of their facial animation and their body gestures are remarkable. You get so caught up with the characters and the story, you don't think about what genre of movie it is. You simply know you are watching a remarkable story." Bird knows full well what it was like for those who worked on the production recalling, "As director, I became well acquainted with what I called the 'Pixar Glaze,' where these complete technical geniuses would just grow pale and start looking at each other like 'Does he know what he's asking?' But no one ever gave up. Every problem found a solution that kept pushing the film's creativity. It's a real testament to Pixar that they kept coming up with magic from thin air." Producer John Walker notes, "This film started with a personal vision and a passion that spread throughout Pixar. Pixar is a place that is built on excellence and Brad's vision was completely supported by everyone there, because even though they could see it was going to be very tough and challenging to make this movie come to life, they also knew it would be highly stimulating. It's an exciting thing to break new ground, pioneer new techniques and invite audiences into an experience that is as emotional and fun as it is innovative." That vision, fun, emotion and great creative production is poised to shake the Academy Awards in 2005.

"Phenomenal, magnificent, exuberantly entertaining, and just about any other positive adjective you can think of." Randy Shulman METRO WEEKLY WASHINGTON DC
Life has become totally tedious for Bob Parr. The former super hero, known as Mr Incredible, has been placed in a special protection programme designed to give former super heroes and their loved ones anonymity. Once admired by the community, Super Heroes are no longer wanted thanks to a flood of litigation after Mr Incredible rescued a citizen who was trying to take his life. Married to Elastigirl and with three children, Violet Parr, Dashiell and baby Jack Jack, Bob Parr now works for an Insurance company. When a confrontation leads to his sacking, the agency who looks after former super heroes cuts him adrift. He and his family are now on their own. Then a lifeline comes from a beautiful, mysterious woman. Her associate needs Mr Incredible to test one of his inventions. Bob convinces wife Helen he's off to attend a conference and flies out on his assignment. Little does he know that his actions will place, not only his family but the whole world in jeopardy.
