"Vin Diesel's new movie may not pacify his extreme action addict fans looking for an adrenaline fix, It is a nice little Disney film that is a surprisingly pleasant way to spend time with the family."

"A delightful, involving comedy with a little suspense and action thrown in. Vin Diesel is surprisingly sensitive and comedic as a tough, lonely warrior turned paterfamilias."

"Vin Diesel goes for the family audience here, and he's not bad. At least it shows that after all those self-important movies he can make fun of himself. And for what it is: lazily written fluff, the film's extremely entertaining."
Rich Cline SHADOW ON THE WALL
"The Pacifier is really hilarious and one of my favorite films so far this year. It’s a little corny for adults and isn’t getting the best of reviews, but kids 5 to 12 will probably find it enjoyable."

The Inside Story
"A by-the-books Disney family film. If this is what you are looking for, Diesel delivers an easy, goodwill charm. The preview audience embraced it." Victoria Alexander FILMSINREVIEW.COM
After appearing in "The Chronicles of Riddick" and the action packed "XXX", many most probably a re wondering why has action hero Vin Diesel has suddenly done a u-turn in his acting career by taking on a family film in which he plays a baby-sitter of all things. Well, there's two answers to that question. The first answer comes courtesy of producer Roger Birnbaum who reveals, "There are not too many actors who could play Shane Wolfe. You need someone physically imposing with tremendous action skills, of course, but also someone willing and able to break out of that genre and suddenly transform into a softer, kinder, funnier version of that. We were thrilled to have a chance with "The Pacifier" to let people see Vin Diesel's talent in a whole new way." The second answer comes from a source who is a two time Academy Award ® winner who gave Diesel this piece of advice; "Vinny, pick the roles you're afraid of." That advice came from one of the greatest and it's fair to say, one of the most loved actors of all time. It came from none other than Tom Hanks. But Vin Diesel in a comedy! Can it really work? The good news is that for most people who enjoy a good old fashioned family film with a little extra zing, it sure will. And Vin Diesel seems to have enjoyed the experience of really stepping out of mould as did The Rock when he recently appeared in "Be Cool". On screen Diesel may not show any sign of nerves about the role, but offscreen it was a different matter. "I admit I was somewhat nervous about this role in the beginning, about doing a Disney family comedy, which is something that was hard for anyone to imagine me doing," says Diesel. "But I gotta say that Tom Hanks was 100 percent right. It was an amazing experience, and it turned into something that I think is going to be really memorable and fun for families to share." Diesel and Disney in the one sentence? You'd better believe it folks. This is good old fashioned Disney entertainment done in the style that many parents cut their teeth on. No wonder some critics are crying foul about Diesel's starring role as a Navy S.E.A.L turned baby sitter. Maybe they need a change of diet from all those no-brainer "Potter" films. Now I don't know if Spyglass Entertainment had spoken to Tom Hanks but I do know they were hoping to attract Diesel to the role right from the start."We thought "The Pacifier" was a great family comedy and we also thought Vin Diesel was the one action star with the acting range to really be able to carry off the role," says Producer Gary Barber ("Seabiscuit"). "It's not that dissimilar to when Arnold Schwarzenegger came out of his 'Terminator' movies to do 'Kindergarten Cop' and 'Twins.' Vin has such an extremely likeable personality, and we felt this transition would really work well for him. Once on the set, he proved to have incredible comic timing." They needn't have worried because Diesel, after reading the script was very attracted to the role and the idea of appearing in a truly Disney production. "To me "The Pacifier" felt like a true classic Disney family comedy," says Diesel. "It's about a man who's never really known a family, a guy who, as a Navy S.E.A.L., has always avoided getting close to anybody. Only now, without any training for it, he's forced into having to try to be a caring father figure to these five unruly kids." Obviously Diesel liked the character judging from the following statement.
"Shane is a great character because he's completely amazing at just about every military and fighting maneuver known to man but the most everyday chores, like changing a diaper, just bring him to his knees. So he's about to go through some very big changes. And he is about to be surprised by just how ridiculously tough, and yet how deeply rewarding, the family life he thought he would never have can be." It's the contrast between those fighting and kid handling skills that makes for great viewing and fun too! "I was immediately attracted to this story because I thought it would be a whole lot of fun, not to mention very liberating, for me to explore comedy and a character who undergoes a real transformation. I liked that even though there's some great action in the film, the focus is just as much on humor, emotion and the relationships Shane forms with the Plummer family. I have to say after doing the movie that it was probably the most enjoyable film experience I've ever had." Producer Jonathan Glickman ("Grosse Pointe Blank" & "The Perfect Score") and Gary Barber found the thought of tough-man Diesel ("Pitch Black") changing babies nappies and being run ragged by a bunch of kids extremely funny. "There's just something phenomenally funny about seeing the world's toughest action star trying to take control of things with a baby on his back and another baby strapped to his front! Along with the magical relationship that developed between Vin and the kids, we knew we had something special." And those kids are very special indeed as are their onscreen performances. "Casting the Plummers was of paramount importance," says Director Adam Shankman ("Bringing Down the House"), "and we not only wanted cute, smart, funny kids, but a quintet that would actually look like real brothers and sisters." And there is a romantic connection for Diesel's character in the film. That comes through the character, Principle Claire Fletcher played by Lauren Graham who took on an even tougher guy when she appeared in "Bad Santa" as Sue, a woman who was head over heels in love with Willie. When it came to appearing in "The Pacifier" it was all new to Graham. "I've never worked with kids or animals before, let alone all of them together in the same scene," Graham admitted. "That was an interesting experience, being chased around by toddlers and ducks! It was also a lot of fun getting to know Vin Diesel. My character was also in the military, so deep down she relates to Shane Wolfe and she finds herself kind of falling for this bald, muscle-bound guy in spite of herself." Finally I must pay homage to one cast member many will instantly recognize. That person is none other than "Everyone Loves Raymond star, and Raymond's on-screen brother, comedian Brad Garrett who does something none of us would be game to do. He wrestles Vin Diesel. "Let me tell you something," says Garrett. "When they told me I had to wrestle Vin Diesel, it almost killed me. I'll be honest. I don't think I could beat up Vin Scully, never mind Vin Diesel. I would run from a Quaker. So it was a little intimidating." So how did it go then Brad? "He's actually a very sweet man and we all had a lot of fun together." I am sure after seeing "The Pacifier" there will be many cinemagoers who will agree with that. Now I wonder what the next 'out of left field' role Vin Diesel has lined up?
