O'Grady does it again Well it's all over for another year and in a fairy tale ending south aussie and Credit Agricole team member Stuart O'Grady has won the Jacob's Creek Tour Down Under for the second time. But one could be excused for even wondering if there was a bike race on in town today as there was little racing done after O'Grady took two bonus seconds in the first preme of the day. Not long after this the race split up into three groups with the main players just rolling around to finish the race in a bunch sprint that had little bearing on the final result. So what were the highlights from todays final stage in Adelaide.
Here's a few. Graeme Browns leading the sprint series and punctures just two laps before the first preme. Three team mates drop back and bust their guts out to get him back in the bunch. In the first preme, O'Grady gets second and two bonus points. These two seconds put him in yellow on the road. The race then splits in to three groups and the race is on for Gene Bates to protect his Young Riders jersey. Brown has a rear wheel problem and once again needs assistance from his team mates.In the lead bunch David McKenzie is pushing the pace and trying to rid himself of the bunch. Sprinter Jay Sweet is hoping for a victory but with two laps to go McKenzie puts in a big attack and breaks clear. Sweet jumps the rest and tries to get over but to no avail. The result is that McKenzie takes the stage in a solid show for Team Linda McCartney. Bates finishes with his bunch and retains the young riders jersey. The third bunch arrives and sprints to the line with no change in the on road standings. Jay Sweet picks up the Most Aggressive Rider jersey while the hard riding Brown retains the TAB sprint jersey.
