The final round of the Impact Internet Services Consistency Awards proved to be just as successful as every other race conducted during the seven round series. In a real turn around, the Mount Compass course attracted the largest field ever assembled to compete in two handicap races hosted by the SDV& LCC and supported by major sponsor BICYCLE EXPRESS. In all 90 riders would nominate, 87 would start and 19 would fail to finish on the tough and testing course. Division One saw a tight sprint finish with Jim McCluskey(SDVLCC) taking major points from Trevor Skinner(V&LCC) with Theo Nicholas, Jim Olds, Joseph Hanuszewicz & Terry Stewart rounding out the top order. Fastest time went to the scratchmen with Tony McLoughlin(Team Mittiga) outsprinting team mate Peter Taylor(Team Mittiga) in a brisk time of 1hr 26min 44secs.
Division Two was the hardest hit by the tough course with 13 riders withdrawing by race end. Noel Heaver must have seen the handicapper coming as he cleared out from the rest of the field to win by a 2 minute margin. The much improved Keith Knockles showed what consistency is all about by taking second spot and adding further to his season points tally. Keith managed to outsprint sports promoter Trudy Fenton who not only promotes a full Triathlon and Duathlon series with partner Marcus Roberts but competes at every given opportunity. Steve Keen, Paul Weatherall and Marcus Roberts were close on the leaders heels to fill the rest of the division two major places. Special commendation to Paul who rode off scratch and took the award for fastest time. Fastest female went to Audrey Donson and the first unplaced female was Carolyn Salisbury(7th) followed by Carolyn Dangerfield(8th). A big thankyou to BICYCLE EXPRESS who supplied twelve terrific trophies for recipients who placed on the day. To all riders & the SDV&LCC thankyou for your support.
SERIES WRAPUP
Well, what an exciting road season we have just witnessed, simply a wonderful show of support for the SAVCC - IMPACT CONSISTENCY AWARDS and the seven race series. On behalf of everyone who has been associated with the series may I offer my personal thanks and congratulations on a job well done. Your support for the host clubs has been really appreciated and was a major contributor to the success of the series. To the 211, yes thats right, 211 riders both male and female who competed, a very big thankyou for showing just where your loyalties lay when it came to this innovative initiative from both the SAVCC and IMPACT. Next year there will be a 10 race series to contest starting with the V&LCC Tour of Minlaton. There is no finer two day tour event in the country when it comes
to veterans racing and I urge everyone to make a big effort to support the event and get in for those early bonus points. This event series can only get better as time goes by and IMPACT is committed to long term support for a professionally run series that benefits the veteran movement here in South Australia...........Richard Surfield
