SPORTS WOMAN OF THE MONTH
photography by Richard Surfield
South Australia has been blessed with many great sporting women over the years. To further add to our promotion of women from the Impact site, each month Impact will select one athlete from either cycling, triathlon or duathlon events that Impact covers as our "Sports Woman of the Month". Unlike other awards that are just based on success, Impacts "Sports Woman of the Month" gives a big tick to female athletes in cycling sports for the effort they put into their own cycling.

RIDER REVIEW
She may be pint sized but there's plenty of energy and talent packed into the dynamo of veteran womens cycling Jenny Kemp. The added bonus is that she is also a pretty nice person too. Down to earth, always cheerful and a champion for womens equality might best describe Jenny. Theres not much organized anywhere for veteran women cyclists except at state and national championships so racing for Jenny is generally with the guys at the two veteran AVCC clubs she hold membership with. Thats not a problem because she generally mixes it pretty well with the men in handicap racing and these days clubs recognize the need to cater for female competitors with special awards based on first finsher and fastest female times. Being a member of our Police force means work comes before racing, so that makes racing all the more enjoyable if not as regular as it used to be.

I hope that by fostering this regular promotion for our women riders it will encourage others to join the cycling ranks. There are many opportunities for women to make a valuable contribution to the sport at all levels of competition.
